At Bakers, we believe that a healthy team is a productive and happy one.
As part of our ongoing commitment to staff wellbeing in the workplace, we recently partnered with Essex Wellbeing Service to host a Digital Health Check Machine. During its time onsite, 89 of our 122 employees used the machine, taking advantage of the opportunity to quickly and confidentially check key health indicators. The machine checked staff’s blood pressure, heart rate, BMI and more.
We were also delighted to welcome Cllr John Spence, Chair of the Essex Health and Wellbeing Board, to Bakers during the machine’s stay. He met with our Managing Director, Steve Baker, to discuss the importance of workplace wellbeing in Essex. John highlighted the positive impact initiatives like these can have on staff health and productivity, while Steve emphasised that supporting employees goes far beyond just “work, work, work”:

Wellbeing is not new to Bakers
We are proud to hold Level 3 Working Well Accreditation for the steps we’ve taken to promote employee health and wellbeing initiatives across our workforce. Staff have free use of an onsite gym, and we organise team activities such as mud runs, half marathons and hikes. We also support mental health with counselling sessions and trained Mental Health First Aiders, showing that our commitment is long-standing.
Cllr Spence praised Bakers as “the epitome of understanding that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce.” He also highlighted how initiatives like this strengthen staff retention, recruitment and overall business reputation.
