3D Printing at Baker Labels: Turning Ideas into Practical Solutions

We have introduced 3D printing at Baker Labels to support production and encourage practical problem-solving across the factory. Our new system combines a Bambu Lab H2D Pro 3D printer with a Revopoint MetroY Ultra 3D scanner.

Technical Planner Daniel Warren is leading the project. He will trial the equipment and identify where it can provide the greatest benefit.

How 3D Printing at Baker Labels Could Reduce Downtime

Initially, Daniel will test how we can produce suitable machine parts and production tools in-house. When a straightforward component fails, we may need to order a replacement. However, the new system could let us scan, model and print certain parts on site. As a result, we could reduce the time spent waiting for deliveries. This would help our teams restore equipment more quickly and maintain productivity.
Producing suitable parts ourselves may also reduce transport and unnecessary packaging. Most importantly, it gives our technical team another way to respond to everyday production challenges.

Creating Tools and 3D Printed Prototypes

In addition, Daniel can use the equipment to create prototypes for new tools, parts and machine adaptations. For example, an operator may suggest a change that makes a task easier or more efficient. Daniel can then turn that idea into a physical prototype.
The team can test the design, gather feedback and make further improvements. Therefore, we can refine an idea before producing the final part. This process will support continuous improvement across Baker Labels. It will also encourage greater collaboration between our technical, planning and production teams.

Testing the New 3D Printing Equipment

Because the technology is new to Bakers, Daniel is currently learning, testing and experimenting. One of his first projects was a simple scraper. Although it is a small test item, it demonstrates how the printer builds an object layer by layer. Each trial helps Daniel understand the equipment’s capabilities. Meanwhile, the wider team can begin identifying practical applications around the factory.
