Join Our Facilities & Maintenance Team at Bakers

Are you practical, hands-on and someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems and keeping everything running smoothly?

We’re looking for a reliable and proactive Facilities & Maintenance Operative (Handyman) to help look after our buildings, facilities and working environment across our sites in Brentwood and Witham, Essex.
This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. From general repairs and decorating to keeping our facilities in great condition, you’ll be helping to make Bakers a safe, well-maintained and welcoming place for everyone who works here.
As an independent, family-run manufacturing business, we take pride in looking after our people and our workplace. We’re looking for someone who shares that pride, has a practical, can-do attitude and enjoys being part of a friendly, hardworking team.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll help keep our sites safe, tidy and in good working order, taking on a variety of maintenance and practical jobs as needed.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Building and facilities maintenance: Helping maintain our offices, factory areas, staff facilities and outdoor spaces.
  • General repairs and DIY: Assembling furniture, installing shelving, repairing fittings and tackling everyday maintenance jobs.
  • Painting and decorating: Carrying out touch-ups, minor decorating and general improvements around the sites.
  • Health, safety and housekeeping: Helping keep working areas clear, tidy and safe, and identifying and reporting any hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Supporting the wider team: Assisting with moving equipment, preparing work areas and helping with general site requirements when needed.

It’s a practical and varied role that suits someone who enjoys being busy, can turn their hand to different tasks and takes satisfaction in a job well done.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, resourceful and happy to get stuck in. You’ll be comfortable working independently, but equally happy to lend a hand and be part of the wider Bakers team.

Skills and Qualities

  • Ideally, you’ll have:

    • Previous experience in a handyman, general maintenance, facilities or similar practical role.
    • Good DIY skills and confidence using basic hand and power tools safely.
    • A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to tackle a variety of maintenance tasks.
    • Good problem-solving skills and the initiative to spot what needs doing.
    • A responsible approach to maintaining a clean, safe and presentable workplace.
    • The ability to organise your workload, work independently and recognise when specialist assistance is needed.
    • Good communication skills and a helpful, team-focused approach.

Relevant maintenance qualifications would be an advantage, but practical experience, reliability and the right attitude are just as important to us.

What Would Make You a Great Fit?

If you’re the sort of person who notices a loose fitting, a wobbly shelf or something that needs fixing and thinks, “I’ll sort that,” you could be just who we’re looking for!

We value people who take pride in their work, look after our facilities and equipment, and are happy to help colleagues when needed. A little common sense, plenty of initiative and a willingness to get stuck in go a long way at Bakers.
